2008 Meeting Minutes

• Our first club meeting of 2008 took place on January 13, 2008 at Franks on Brambleton.

• There were 38 members in attendance.

• After the invocation given by Steve Burak, everyone enjoyed a buffet of pizza, salad and sandwiches.

• David Cundiff filled in for our new President Bill Cullop.

• Our New Club Officers are President - Bill Cullop, Vice President - David Cundiff, Treasurer - Randy Hurt, Secretary - Christi Reynolds, Newsletter Editor - Chris Reynolds.

• We are looking for one or two volunteers for car show coordinator and activities coordinator.  If more people offer to pitch in and help, our club will only get better.  The car show coordinator helps arrange food sign up sheet, sets up classes and arranges judges.  The activity coordinator arranges club activities.

• Spring Car Show

  • We need to set a date.  We are checking other car shows and dates along with Duncan's availability.  We need to set the date and a rain date at the next meeting so that we can print flyers in time for the MDA Car Show.  Chris Reynolds will update the website with all current car shows so we can plan around them if necessary.

  • We need more doorprizes as we are out.

  • We need someone to help plan and organize car show activities.

• MDA Car Show

  • We need to pick a car to display in front of the SCP booth.  The car should be a car that represents our club.

  • We need volunteers to help design a display for our booth.  We are trying to make a big impression and gain new members.  Please give this some thought.

  • We also need volunteers to take turns manning the booth.

  • Anyone who plans on entering the MDA show needs to plan on meeting in the parking lot at a certain time so we can all park together as a club.

• Joyce Shelton won the 50/50 drawing!  She won $17, and $17 went to the club.

• Club dues are due.  Dues are $12 per year, with no charge for associate members.  Please pay your dues to Randy Hurt.

• Paul and Lou Marcy visited our meeting.  They have a 66 GTO.

• New Cars

  • Randy Hurt bought a new 64 Bonneville in white and drove it to the meeting.

  • Chris & Christi Reynolds bought a new 69 Firebird Convertible 350HO, red w/white top and drove it to the meeting.

• Out next meeting is Sunday, February 10 at 4:00 PM at Frank's on Brambleton.

• Our February meeting took place on February 10, 2008 at Bellacino's with 14 in attendance.

• Steve Burak gave the invocation.

• We need volunteers to man the club booth at MDA.  Please sign up for a time slot.

• We are looking for a location for our spring car show.  Please notify Bill Cullop if you have a suggestion. 

  • Possible dates for the show are May 3, May 10, or May 17. 

  • If we can get a location and date for the show, we could get flyers out at the MDA car show.   

  • Charly Tull's black GTO will be on display at our booth at the show.

  • The MDA show is March 7-9.  Hours are Friday 5-10 PM, Saturday 9 AM -10 PM, Sunday 10 AM - 5 PM.

• Ron Ferguson and Carl Slate will be our new activity directors.

• Jim Clark will help out with Judging and Classing.

• We need show coordinators.  Jobs would include putting up banners, passing our sign up sheets, etc.

• Randy Hurt gave the treasury report.  We currently have xxxxx in checking, plus dues being paid and xxxx in change for our car shows.

• Upcoming Shows - MDA car show at the Roanoke Civic Center.  Heart of Virginia Car Show and Festival - May 3, Farmville, VA.  Pontiacs in the Park - May 30 - June 1, Petersburg, VA. 

• If you would like to take your car to the Heart of VA car show, Ray has offered to store your car at his house until the Pontiacs in the Park show.

• Club members we need to remember in prayer:

  • Jack Strickler due to a blood clot.

  • Russell Cannaday is on life support in an induced coma.

  • Ray Miller is not feeling well.

  • David Reams is having heart trouble.

• Our next club meeting will be held on March 2 at T-bone Jack's in Salem, VA at 4:00 PM.

• Our March meeting took place on March 2, 2008 at T-Bone Jack’s on Electric Road in Salem with 32 members in attendance.
• Our club treasurer Randy Hurt gave a treasury report.
• Club dues are due!
• Upcoming car shows
  • MDA Car Show – March 7-9 – we need volunteers for our club booth.  Charlie Tull’s black GTO will be at our booth.  Jack Akers and Randy Hurt will also enter their cars.
  • Star City Motor Madness – George Barris will be there Friday and Saturday.  Barry McGuire may come to the show.  SCMM is desperately in need of volunteers to help with the show.
• Russell Cannaday is off of life support after 48 days in intensive care.  Please continue to pray for his kidneys to work again.  He is on dialysis now.
• Jack Akers, Wayne Reynolds and Charlie Tull are our new car show coordinators!
• We have a new member – David Cartie – he owns a Blue-Green 98 Trans Am.
• Lois Reynolds would have won the 50/50, but she was not in attendance.
• Our Next Meeting is on April 13 at 5:00 PM at T-Bone Jacks.

• Our April meeting took place on April 13, 2008 at T-Bone Jack’s on Electric Road in Salem with 33 members in attendance.
• We have some new members!  Ron Stark has a 1980 Sunset Orange Trans Am.  Andrew, Jessica & Trey Webb have a silver GTO.   Eric & Jennifer West are also new members.
• Please remember Russell Cannday's family in your prayers.  Russell was a member of the Star City Pontiac club for many years and passed away last month.  Please keep Ray Miller in your prayers as well.
• Our Spring Show will be held on June 14 with a rain date of June 21.  Please see Bill if you need flyers or posters for the show.
• We need door prizes!  The club will send thank you notes to people who donate.
• Harold and Joyce Shelton bought a new 88 Safari wagon.  Jim Clark has a net 92 Trans Am Convertible.
• Star City Motor Madness desperately needs people to park cars. 
• Denton Gordon has a car trailer for sale.  99 26' Pace with cabinets, checkered floors, 10,000 lb axles.  Will take $7000.
• Andrew Webb won $30.50 in the 50/50 drawing.
• Our next meeting is on May 18th at 5:00 PM at T-Bone Jacks.  The meeting was moved from May 11 which is Mother's Day.

• Our May club meeting took place at T-Bone Jack's on May 18 with 29 members in attendance.
• We plan to reduce the mailing list to active members to reduce postage costs.
• Ron and Carl will have an activity list for the next meeting.
• There will be a cruise in at Advance Auto at Crossroads Mall every Saturday night due to the shutting down of the Fast Freddy's cruise in.
• There will be a cruise in on Fridays at the Bingo Hall in Vinton.  It will start between 5 - 6 PM.
• Carl Slate and Randy Hurt went to the Fort Chiswell show.  Carl won Best Interior.
• The Greensboro car show date has been changed to September 20 in Burlington at Dave Wescott Pontiac.
• Star City Motor Madness Update
  • If you register before June 6th your name will be in the flyer.
  • They desperately need help parking cars.  See Jack Akers if you want to help.
  • Randy Hurt will DJ at the Civic Mall on Friday night, and Encore will be playing downtown on Saturday.
  • The Corvette club has Franklin Rd this year.
  • George Barris is making an appearance and giving a speech at 5:00 PM, showing videos, and giving some awards.
• Upcoming shows
  • Russell Cannaday's son is having a car show on June 7 next to the Blue Ridge Antique Mall.
  • Outlaw Cruisers - Downtown Rocky Mount.  $15 on Sundays from 1-4 PM.
  • Pontiacs in the Park in Petersburg on May 30-June 1
  • Our Spring Car Show - June 14th at Berglund on Williamson Rd.  Members show up at 8 AM for set up.

• Our June club meeting took place at T-Bone Jack's at 5:00 PM with 22 members in attendance.
• Our Spring show raised over xxxxx.  We had 42 registered cars and 4 unregistered.  There was xxxx in food sales.
  • We need more help in future shows with concessions.
  • Berglund may sponsor our fall car show.
  • Berglund is trying to start a cruise in the lot where the car show was held.
• Steve and Sandy Burak have a Rockola Jukebox for sale and a 1961 Lighted Budweiser Sign, one of 200, for sale.
• We have two new members - Danny and Nancy Johnson.  They own a 1956 2 Door Hardtop
• 5 members entered their cars in the Pontiacs in Pigeon Forge car show.  There were 103 cars at the show.  Ron Ferguson, Bill & Vicki Cullop, Chris and Christi Reynolds, and Carl Slate won first place in their classes, and Jim Clark won 3rd.  Chris Reynolds put pictures on the www.pontiacsinpigeonforge.com website and our club website.
• Chris and Christi Reynolds provided a large stack of pictures to Judy Akers for the club photo album.

• Jack Akers proposed opening up our show to Chevrolets and giving everyone a plaque or doing just specialty awards.
• Jim Clark attended the New River Autofest.  Charly Tull and other members attended Russell Canaday's Memorial Car Show (120 cars).
• Randy Hurt gave the Treasury Report - cash on hand as of June 22 xxxxx.
• Our Fall Car Show may be October 8 or 10.
• Randy Hurt won $10.50 in the 50/50 drawing.
• The next meeting will be held on July 13 at 5:00 PM at T-Bone Jack's.

• SCPC fall car show will be held at Berglund Chevrolet on Williamson Road on Sat. Oct. 11, 2008 (date not yet finalized)

• Chris sent reminder cards to those members who have not paid this years dues. It will be their last reminder before they are dropped.

• Carl Seville is recovering from a liver transplant, the club is sending a card

• Jack Akers reported that Grand Piano would host a car show for their grand opening in Westlake.

• 205 cars came out for the Christiansburg cruise-in.

• Berglund is planning to host cruise-ins on the first and third Saturdays of the month. They plan to have music and food for purchase at their Williamson Road location. 

• Next meeting; Aug 10, 2008 at T-bone Jacks at 5 P.M.

• Our August club meeting took place on August 10, 2008 at T-Bone Jack's with 22 members in attendance.

• Steve Burak asked the blessing

• We discussed our Fall show.  We need to set a date, possibly October 4, 11, or 18.  We are leaning towards October 18.  We will have a sign up sheet for ladies to volunteer for the concession stand so that no one gets stuck working the entire time.  We may raise our food prices.  The awards will be picture plaques.

• Upcoming Shows:  Church of God Show on September 20.  2009 POCI + GTOAA show on July 7-11, 2009 in Dayton, OH.

• Jerry Kling will bring photos of POCI convention to the next meeting.

• Charly and Carol Tull and Cal Saunders won first place in their classes at the Ames Pontiac Nationals.

• Berglund Cruis is the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month.

• Jack Akers gave a Star City Motor Madness update.  They need extra help for parking next year.  If you help you can go to a volunteer picnic.

• Judy Wooten would have won the 50/50 but she was not in attendance.  $20 will roll over to the next meeting.

• The next meeting will be held on September 14, 2008 at T-Bone Jacks at 5:00 PM.

• Our September club meeting took place on September 14, 2008 with 26 members in attendance.

• Randy gave a treasury report.  Cash on hand as of September 14 is xxxxxxx.

• Steve and Sandy Burak will be moving to Oregon.  They have been a big part of this club over the years and will be greatly missed.

• Our Fall car show will be held on October 18 at Berglund Chevrolet on Williamson Rd.

• We need door prizes for the show, food volunteers, 50/50 and door prize ticket volunteers. 

• We have a sign up sheet for the concession stand so no one gets stuck working it all day.

• We are raising our food prices.  Hot dogs will be $2, drinks $1.  Combos with a drink, chips and a hotdog will be $3.

• Bill Cullop will check with Carl Slate about the show insurance.

• Michael Wheeler would have won the 50/50 drawing but was not in attendance.  $32 will go back into the pot.

• The next meeting will be on October 12, 2008.  We will cruise to The Homeplace.  We will meet at Pinkerton Chevrolet at 3:15 and will leave at 3:30 sharp for The Homeplace.  Our reservations are at 4:00 PM.

• The October meeting took place on October 12, 2008 following a cruise from Pinkerton Chevrolet with 29 members in attendance.  Thirteen cars participated in the cruise.

• The club signed cards for Wayne Reynolds and for Steve and Sandy Burak.  We discussed purchasing a Jukebox ornament for Steve and Sandy.  David will pick it up.

• Otto and Lorraine Jacobi have been married for three weeks.

• We discussed the upcoming car show.  Everyone is to meet at Berglund at 8:00 AM for set up.

• Otto Jacobi won the 50/50 drawing.  He won $44.

• The next meeting will be held at Franks on Brambleton on November 9 at 4:00 PM.
